On Monday 23 June the Jenner Institute hosted the 3rd annual Jenner Early Researchers Symposium at Pembroke College. This event is committed to providing a friendly environment for DPhil and Master’s students, research assistants and technicians to present their work and engage in the research of their peers.

Dame Carol Robinson

Amy Napier was awarded the prize for the 10-minute talk, with Lorena Blaya-Martinez and Oliver Pearson winning prizes for the 5 and 2-minute talks respectively. Joel Balkaran and Orthi Onupom were awarded poster prizes, with Francisco Orliacq receiving commendation as a runner up to the poster competition.

We heard fantastic keynote talks from Dr Andrew Porter, about the intricacies of Biotech and Intellectual Property, from a business building perspective, and from Professor Mala Maini, with a talk considering the contributions of T cell immunity for developing therapeutic vaccines. Finally, we had two career plenaries, from Professor Dame Carol Robinson and Zosia Kmietowicz, who provided great tours through their careers, offering insights, advice and inspiration.

The JERS symposium is organised and hosted by a committee of passionate students and research assistants from the Jenner and Pandemic Sciences Institutes. We’d like to thank the committee and all who provided assistance in the lead-up and on the day to make this event happen. We look forward to next year!
