PPI Opportunity at the Oxford Vaccine Centre
Opportunity: New Member Oxford Vaccine Centre Public Patient Involvement (PPI) Group
Even if you don’t want to take part in a health and care research study you can still get involved and support health and care research. We think of public involvement in research as research being carried out ‘with’ or ‘by’ members of the public rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ them. The Oxford Vaccine Centre (OVC) hosts a patient and public involvement group (PPI group). The group are members of the public and advise our researchers on different elements of their research, to help make it as acceptable and accessible as possible to everyone.
We are now seeking new public and patient members for our PPI Group.
We are looking for people who are:
- Members of the public who do not work in healthcare, PPI, or in a health research role
- Living, studying or working in the Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire or Berkshire (BOB) area
- Interested in health but no previous experience in research needed
- Possibly (but not necessarily) personal physical or mental health experience
- Willing to learn about patient or public involvement in health research
- Flexible and friendly when working with others
- Willing to undertake training
- Interested in helping to make it possible for anyone, from any background to take part in health research
- Able to attend at least two meetings a year online or in person (approximately three online and three in person). Other opportunities may also be available.
All applications are welcome.
Are you from a community that does not usually have the opportunity to be involved in health research? If so, we are particularly looking for you. By this, we mean people:
- With disabilities or long-term health conditions
- Who are from Black, African, Asian and Caribbean communities
- Who are from LGBT+ communities
- Who are refugees, carers, and younger adults (18–30 years old)
- Who have not been to university
What will you be doing as a member of the Public Patient Involvement Group?
- Working with other group members, you will help researchers make their research more understandable and inclusive
- You will help researchers understand what is important to people from different backgrounds
Payment, expenses and training:
- We will offer payment for time and reimbursement of expenses
- Current payment is £25 per hour plus expenses where applicable (e.g. travel for attending meetings)
- We also offer training opportunities
Start and length of role:
The role is initially for one year with the option to extend.
