Arthropod Borne Viruses
The López Camacho Group develops next generation mRNA and viral vector vaccines targeting viruses transmitted by mosquitos and ticks. Our work spans antigen design, immunogenicity testing, and preclinical models, with a focus on translational impact in endemic regions. We apply a One Health approach to advance vaccines for both human and veterinary use.
RNA Technology Programme
The López Camacho Group develops mRNA and viral vector vaccines targeting mosquito and tick borne pathogens. We integrate antigen design, in-house mRNA production, and preclinical evaluation. Our work supports One Health vaccine strategies for both human and animal use.
Gonococcal Vaccine Project
A vaccine to prevent gonorrhoea and combat spread of AMR targeting LMICs
Vaccine Formulation and Adjuvants
We study the immune mechanisms of vaccines and vaccine adjuvants, taking an integrated approach that combines mouse studies, human lymph node ex vivo model system, in vitro testing and clinical sampling. In addition, we are developing single-dose vaccine formulations with the aim of delivering prime-bost vaccination with a single administration, where the booster vaccine is encapsulated into a polymer shell for a delayed burst-release in vivo.
Coronavirus
On 7th February 2020, the Jenner Institute at the University of Oxford agreed a contract with Advent Srl, in Italy to produce the first batch of the novel coronavirus vaccine ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 for clinical testing. The vaccine ‘seed stock’ is currently being produced at the University’s Clinical Biomanufacturing Facility. This will be transferred to Advent who will initially produce 1000 doses for the first clinical trials of this vaccine.
Draper Group
Simon Draper is Professor of Vaccinology and Translational Medicine at the University of Oxford. He was based at the Jenner Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine from 2005 until Feb 2021 when he moved his laboratory to the Department of Biochemistry. The group's clinical team are based at the University's Centre for Clinical Vaccinology and Tropical Medicine (CCVTM) on the Churchill Hospital site.
