Research
The Jenner Institute has an active clinical trials team which works with collaborating partners to undertake clinical trials of candidate malaria vaccines in the UK and in malaria-endemic regions of The Gambia and Kenya. Nick’s work focuses on the design and conduct of the clinical trials investigating viral-vectored malaria vaccines targeting the preerythrocytic stage of the lifecycle of Plasmodium falciparum.
The trials form an integral part of efforts to progress the development of the vaccines by examining the safety, immunogenicity, mechanism of action, efficacy, and field applicability of the vaccines. Key questions being addressed include the efficacy of the vaccines in infants in malaria-endemic regions, and the impact of novel vaccination schedules and adjuvants upon the immunogenicity of the vaccines.
