I am a clinical research fellow at the Jenner Institute, working with the TB vaccine programme, headed by Professor Helen McShane. I have taken out of programme research experience from my specialty Respiratory and General Medicine training, in Tayside in Scotland, and I have a specific interest in pulmonary TB and Global Health.
I am currently working on three Phase I trials assessing the safety and immunogenicity of novel viral vector TB vaccines in BCG vaccinated adults, and am assisting in the development of a BCG challenge model. TB today, remains one of the major global disease burdens, with 10 million new cases per year, and 1.7 million people estimated to die from TB related disease every year.
Treatment options are complex, costly and potentially harmful, and with ever increasing problems of drug resistance, development of an effective vaccine to work with the BCG as part of a prime boost regimen, is a global health priority.
