The CBF has over 15 years experience producing biological IMPs according to GMP for early phase clinical trials.  It has a Manufacturer’s Authorisation for Investigational Medicinal Products (MA (IMPs)) from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and is currently manufacturing adenoviral vectors for use as novel vaccines and cancer therapies

We are seeking to recruit an experienced and ‘hands- on’ cGMP Production Manager to be responsible for ensuring all quality and regulatory aspects can be met to ensure the smooth translation (working with process development team) of novel academic research Advanced Therapies  into the highly regulated cleanroom manufacturing environment of the CBF.

The successful candidate will have a life science degree or equivalent with a proven track record in a similar role ideally with biopharmaceutical / biotechnological experience gained in industry. In addition they will have prior experience of regulatory inspection, internal and external audits. Excellent organizational skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and an ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with a wide range of staff at all levels, internally and externally (academic collaborators and the regulatory authorities) are all required. They must be able to work under pressure and under strictly defined regulatory and safety conditions whilst maintaining a high degree of accuracy.  The applicant must have an adaptable approach to work and a willingness to tackle a variety of tasks. Good record-keeping skills are essential.

The candidate should have solid working experience in a regulated GMP environment managing and controlling clean room discipline and be confident they will be able to ensure systems and procedures used for the manufacturing of academic IMPs are both robust enough to satisfy the legal requirements yet pragmatic enough to creatively address the challenges that manufacture of novel therapies will always pose whist ensuring patient safety paramount.

An ability to work without supervision and to combine a structured and organised approach with enthusiasm will be important.

Research Assistant – Malaria Vaccine Trials
Salary scale for University Staff Grade 6: (25,751 – £30,747) per annum

Professor Adrian Hill’s research group has developed new candidate vaccines for liver-stage and blood-stage malaria. For the last four years we have been conducting phase Ia and IIa clinical trials to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of these vaccines in healthy volunteer subjects in the UK, including experimental malaria challenge studies to test vaccine efficacy.  Parallel studies evaluating the safety and immunogenicity in malaria endemic areas (The Gambia and Kenya) are also underway. We require a research assistant to perform immunological assays to measure responses induced by such vaccines in Phase Ia and IIa vaccine trials in Oxford. Although most vaccines studied are designed and developed within the University, vaccines under development by industrial and other collaborators are also evaluated periodically.

A research assistant is required to join Professor Adrian Hill’s & Dr Simon Draper’s blood-stage malaria vaccine development group at the Jenner Institute, University of Oxford. The research programme focuses on pre-clinical and clinical testing of novel vectored blood-stage malaria vaccines. You will be part of the clinical trials team and will work on the evaluation of candidate vaccines in clinical trials.

The position involves supporting the general program of immunology within the human malaria vaccine trials. This includes general lab duties (maintaining supplies, consumables and instruments); preparing reagents; cataloguing frozen samples; and some data analysis. The successful candidate will be highly organized, with proven experience in a laboratory environment.

You will have good interpersonal skills and be able to interact productively and accurately with other team members. Previous laboratory experience, good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential. The research involves cellular immunology techniques carried out with human blood samples including ELISPOT, ELISA, and sterile cell culture (full training will be given). Experience of working to GLP would be an advantage.

The position will be based at the new Jenner Institute Laboratories, at the university’s Old Road Campus in Headington.
